Santa Claus will fly over the Ozarks on Christmas Eve in his reindeer-powered sleigh, but, prior to his busiest night of the year, he’ll be flying over the same area in a 1956 Cessna 180!

Beginning Nov. 15, families can join the jolly man at The Hangar Kafe, a restaurant on an airstrip about 40 miles west of Springfield, Missouri. Take a ride in the 1956 Cessna 180 on weekends, weather permitting. The cost is $50 per person, including a ride and photo with Santa. Santa will pilot the plane, which can then accommodate two to three additional passengers. Book your flight with Santa by calling 417 452 2277.

The Hangar Kafe is known for home-style cooking, with hot-air balloon rides and other types of plane rides also available. The restaurant is a great spot for watching airplanes and skydivers. Housed in a hangar, the eatery’s décor includes aeronautical themes, model planes and balloons hanging from the ceiling.

Kids can also visit Santa at other locations in the Springfield area, including Scuba Claus at Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and the Polar Express at Branson Scenic Railway.

The Creepy Appeal of Dark Tourism

While the term dark tourism applies more widely to places associated with tragedies, death and the grimmer moments in history, at its heart is a fascination with the bizarre, mysterious and spooky — qualities certain to attract older kids and teens.
