St. Augustine, Florida transitions into a place of wonder every holiday, turning the oldest city in the United States into a city of lights, festivity and cheer. Visit St. Augustine this holiday to see some of the most unforgettable sights.
Listed as one of the top 10 holiday light displays in the world by National Geographic, St. Augustine’s annual Night of Lights sees the historic town twinkling all winter. The nightly event began Nov. 20, and will stay up until Jan. 31, 2022.
From large oaks wrapped in sparkling lights to the rooftops of Spanish Colonial buildings lined with lights and tinsel, St. Augustine transforms into something truly magical. The lights adorn about 20 blocks of the Nation’s Oldest City’s historic district and has some special spots for the perfect family picture; the Plaza de la Constitución holds a large Christmas tree in the center of the plaza while The Bridge of Lions features lights along its edges, its reflection sparkling along the surface of the St. Johns River.
If you can’t get enough of the lights, St. Augustine’s famous lighthouse will host the all-new Lighthouse Illuminations through Jan. 21, 2022. The black-and-white spiral lighthouse will feature 21 different themed Christmas trees on select nights at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. Visit here to purchase tickets for this special event.
Through Jan. 1, 2022, colorful light displays will adorn A1A Beach Boulevard and St. Johns County Ocean Pier Park. Held every evening, the lights will run up the coastal road for a beautiful view of not only the lights, but also of the Atlantic Ocean.
Noche de Navidad and Las Posadas
On Dec. 18 and 19, visitors can celebrate Las Posadas, the celebration of Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, 5–10 p.m. at Mission Nombre De Dios. The two-day event includes five available tours and two performances of the Living Nativity and Eucharistic Adoration.
Christmas at the Villa Zorayda Museum
The 19th-century Villa Zorayda Museum will hold a special Christmas Experience on Dec. 18, 20, 27, 28 and 30. Filled with a larger-than-life Christmas tree and more than 100 candles, the museum incorporates Spanish and Moorish influence in this festive celebration.
