Destinations / North America

Family travel means something different for each type of family, but for those of us with dogs, it takes on a whole meaning. Our furry friends are part of the family, and traveling with them can bring so much joy, but also a great deal of stress in trying to find the perfect blend of luxury, fun and relaxation while making sure our pets get the comfort and care they deserve.

The Weekapaug Inn, one of Rhode Island’s most spectacular accommodations, offers a little something for every member of the family in a setting that exceeds the most discerning expectations. On a recent visit to Weekapaug, I was delighted to find not only a place where the family can enjoy a quintessential New England getaway, but everyone, including the family dog, can also be treated with the utmost respect and attention to detail one can expect from a 5-star accommodation.

The Relais & Chateaux property, first built in 1899, sits on a strip of land between the Quonochontaug Pond and the Atlantic Ocean. The charming inn, with the classic seaside cottage architecture that coastal New England is known for, welcomes you from the start with friendly staff, a warm fire burning in the hearth, and luxurious rooms that make you feel as if you have arrived in heaven. There is even a welcome station for the family dog where you can treat your pooch with complimentary biscuits upon arrival.

For families, Weekapaug offers every activity imaginable. Guests can enjoy birding or taking guided hikes with the on-site naturalist, go exploring with the inn’s kayaks or bicycles, or take a Jeep safari. You don’t even have to worry about bringing your own outdoor apparel; You can simply borrow what you need from the Hunter Boots Borrowing Closet, complete with Hunter-branded outdoors apparel in all sizes.

If staying around the inn is more your speed, you can relax by the pool, make your own jewelry at one of the on-site art classes, or set up a family game night in one of the many common areas that make you feel like you’re at home. You can even do some stargazing at night in one of the Adirondak chairs on the lawn while you enjoy a beach bonfire complete with s’mores.

While the activities for the families don’t seem to end, Weekapaug makes sure our furry companions are thought of at every turn. In addition to a warm welcome for your pet complete with dog treats and comfy pet beds for your room, the Pet Program partners with Get Joy & Co. to provide a full menu for dogs (along with the incredible menu for humans crafted from fresh produce grown in the inn’s thermal-heated garden) that includes turkey, chicken and beef selections.

The inn provides a list of local dog parks and walking trails that let you and your pooch stretch your legs while you explore the area. If you want to plan an activity away from the inn and can’t bring your pooch, Weekapaug offers dog-sitting and -walking services so you know your bestie will be in good hands while you are away.

Weekapaug works with local veterinarians to ensure if your pet has an emergency, you can get them the care they need without having to rush back home before your trip is over.

During your stay, your pet is welcome to enjoy the grounds and common areas with you so you can all be comfy while you enjoy Weekapaug together.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
