The iconic Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton debuted its Ocean Explorers program, an immersive, living classroom with curriculum and experiences to help children learn about the ocean and marine life — perfect for family travel to San Diego.
“We are so proud and fortunate to be able to continue the legacy that really began here at The Del, and to help encourage future generations to understand and protect our oceans and the planet by creating this wonderful, immersive kids’ program,” said Joshua Franklin, director of recreation and fitness, Hotel del Coronado.
In 1903, Hotel del Coronado founder Elisha Babcock helped biologist William Emerson Ritter establish a research center in The Del’s boathouse; today, that legacy continues with the Ocean Explorers program for children 5–12. Children immerse themselves in an underwater world with creative activities, adventures and more, all geared toward learning about how to preserve the ocean. Half- and full-day sessions are available, priced at $110 and $195, respectively. A portion of the proceeds benefit Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Explorers Night Out experiences will be offered Friday and Saturday, 6–9 p.m., including dinner.
Local artist and conservationist Carley Ealey designed the Ocean Explorers classroom in collaboration with Hotel del Coronado. Classroom lessons cover topics such as ocean science, seashells, tidepools, sharks, ocean preservation and more.
