North America

Now that Americans can travel to Canada again, it’s time to consider a camping trip in the province of New Brunswick for your family travels. Provincial and national parks offer campgrounds next to dramatic natural wonders along the Bay of Fundy and alongside beautiful beaches with the warmest sea water north of Virginia.

Herring Cove Provincial Park

Just across the international bridge from Lubec, Maine, Herring Cove Provincial Park is on Campobello Island, close to the summer home of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt in what is now Roosevelt Campobello International Park. In addition to a campground with RV hook-ups and tent sites, Herring Cove also has a mile-long sandy beach and nine-hole golf course, as well as a seafood restaurant. A hiking trail leads to Roosevelt Cottage.

Fundy National Park

Farther up the New Brunswick coast, Fundy National Park protects a dramatic coastline shaped and carved by the powerful tides of the Bay of Fundy. The world’s highest tides created natural wonders including Hopewell Rocks and the sea caves at St. Martins, all within easy reach of the park’s five campgrounds. These campgrounds include tent and RV sites, yurts and rustic cabins, as well as back-country sites. Point Wolfe and Wolfe Lake are quieter and more primitive areas, with tent sites only.

Mactaquac Provincial Park

A few miles west of New Brunswick’s capital of Fredericton, Mactaquac Provincial Park is in woodlands along the scenic Saint John River. The park has 300 campsites for tents and RVs, some alongside the 18-hole golf course. Along with the golf course and multiple recreation areas, the park has freshwater beaches and TreeGO Mactaquac Aerial Adventure Park.

Kouchibouguac National Park

On New Brunswick’s northern Acadian Coast, Kouchibouguac National Park protects a precious region of lush forests, salt marshes, dunes and warm ocean beaches. Campsites are large and activities include hiking and biking on miles of trails, gathering clams and kayaking or canoeing in the saltwater lagoon. Families can paddle a Voyageur Canoe through protected waters to see a grey seal colony or visit an interpretive Wigwam to learn about Mi’gmaq culture.
