Multigenerational

Family travelers to Georgia must not forget to visit Athens, a city buzzing with exciting new shops, revitalizations, anniversaries and more.

“The Classic City just keeps getting better and better,” said Hannah Smith, director of marketing and communications, Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau. “In the New Year, we hope our locals and visitors enjoy these community enhancements and add some of these amazing restaurants and shops to their lists.”

Here’s what’s coming to Athens in 2023:

Georgia Museum of Art

Celebrate Georgia Museum of Art’s 75th anniversary this year. In honor of the milestone, the museum features blog stories on the museum website, an interactive visitor response wall and a special vinyl timeline in the lobby.

Athens Cooks

This new store opens on Prince Avenue, selling sustainable local products; gifts; supplies; and curated, high-quality kitchen tools. Athens Cooks also plans to soon offer cooking classes to the public, as well as a new café area serving beer, wine, charcuterie and other bites.

Renovated Downtown

Downtown Athens underwent extensive renovations downtown, and 2023 marks the completion of these revitalizations. New enhancements include widened sidewalks, rainbow crosswalks, benches and seating areas, and safety updates.

Slater’s Steakhouse

Gracing Athens’ Five Points neighborhood, Slater’s Steakhouse brings bistro-style dining to the city. Indulge in American classics and, for adults, choose from craft cocktails, including a make-your-own martini service.
