Destinations / Europe

With an estimated 2.3 billion cycling tourism trips made across Europe each year, it’s no wonder the e-bike sector continues to see more family travelers taking to this fun activity. Having increased by more than 133 percent in 2021 alone, e-biking in Europe expects to grow even more in the coming years.

The great thing about e-biking is its accessible nature and leisurely component. Tourists of all ages can enjoy an e-biking experience, and cycling holiday provider Cycling for Softies hopes to inspire travelers planning a European trip this summer with some of the best e-bike routes in Europe.

Here is what Cycling for Softies recommends:

Epernay to Reims, France

This easy e-bike route brings travelers through France’s Champagne region, spanning about 35 miles total. The route can be broken down into parts for easier access. Cyclists can start in Epernay and e-bike until they reach Conde-sur Marne. Here, travelers can rest, enjoy some historic sightseeing and try great food. The best part about this route: It is canal-side and traffic-free, making it safe and easy to navigate.

Via Francigena Highway, Italy

E-bike along the ancient pilgrimage highway of Via Francigena, a route established in the first century. This ancient route actually begins all the way in Canterbury in England and stretches through France and Switzerland before ending in Italy. On this route in Italy, cyclists can literally pass history and see why this highway has drawn people up and down its way for centuries.

Climping, Sussex, United Kingdom

Nature lovers must try this e-bike route in Climping, located on the southern shorelines of the United Kingdom. Along the way, cyclists pass the villages of Arundel and Littlehampton. Much of the route sees rolling hills, green landscapes and countryside villages, a perfect way to enjoy Sussex’s natural beauty.

Alsace Route du Vin

Considered one of France’s most scenic cycling routes, the Alsace Route du Vin spans more than 105 miles, passing through the vineyards, villages and historic landmarks of Northeastern France. The oldest wine route in France begins in Strasbourg and ends south of Colmar. Cyclists are encouraged to stop at villages along the way to rest and explore the vineyards and wineries.

Barnsley House, The Cotswolds, United Kingdom

Within The Cotswolds lies Barnsley House, a 17th-century house and hotel surrounded by some of the best cycling routes in the region. The main route begins at the house and weaves through the countryside before reaching River Coln. Then, cyclists can continue onward toward villages like Bibury and Coln St. Aldwyns before ending in Cirencester. This lowkey route makes for a relaxing experience interspersed with stops at riverside pubs and cafés.
