Multigenerational

The Wizard of Oz has long been a family favorite, and thanks to a company called Questo, there is a whole new way to enjoy the magic of the beloved movie while getting in some precious family travel time.

Questo created the Wizard of Oz Experience, an activity combining city exploration with an escape room-style scavenger hunt. Using your mobile phone, you and your team of family or friends start at a designated point in the city, then follow the clues and solve puzzles to help Dorothy and her friends find their way to safety as you work your way through the city.

The event, traveling to cities across the country, is a combination of organized, large-group event and self-paced activity. Each participating city will have its own date for the experience, but participants can choose to either work at their own pace or race against the clock with other teams. The game is designed to include about 2 miles of walking, and the event organizers work hard to route the experience through safe parts of the city.

The experience is expected to take each team about 90 minutes, but you are welcome to start your adventure anytime throughout the day of the event, as long as you start between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The experience is recommended for anyone aged 7 and up, and kids get to play for free.

With the event visiting so many cities, like Mesa, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Anaheim, California; and Honolulu, Hawai’i, just to name a few, it is a great way to either explore a city on your family’s vacation itinerary or gain a new perspective on your hometown. Participants can dress up in their favorite Oz-themed costumes to participate in the costume contest. Pets are welcome, too. After all, they are part of the family and Dorothy would never go to Oz and leave Toto behind!
