Age Specific / Teens

The opulence and world-class history of Austria knows no age limit. Families of all shapes and sizes take to the breathtaking natural beauty of the country’s landscape and Imperial cities from a bygone era — all while enjoying the comforts and entertainment of today.

Young Teens

Between museum visits and classical music history, take the younger teens to Familypark — the largest theme park in Austria. Located along Lake Neusiedl in Rust in Burgenland, Austria, Familypark boasts four different worlds including Erlebnisburg (Experience Castle), Abernteuerinsel

(Adventure Island), Märchenwald (Fair Tale Forest) and Bauernhof (the Farm). Familypark is ideal for all ages, but perfect for younger teens with its many family-friendly attractions and adventure zones. Play water games, visit playgrounds or hop on daredevil rides.

Step into an Austrian Jurrassic Park setting with a visit to Park Styrassic. Hit the climbing course and giant zipline or tour the dinosaur habitats.

While in the Capital City, Vienna, catch a shark feeding at Haus des Meeres, Aqua Terra Zoo. Peruse two floors of exhibits hosting more than 10,000 species from Mediterranean amphibians and reptiles to the residents of Crocodile Park and monkeys hanging in the Tropical House.

Photo Takers and Culture Seekers

Step back in time with a visit to archeological museum, Carnuntum. The replicated Roman city resides on the original site from 4 AD, showcasing some of the same features as the original city from more than 1,700 years ago, including Roman baths and mosaics. Check out the gladiator practice area, impeccable grounds and incredible landmarks. Whether history buffs in the making or already archeologically inclined, Carnuntum is a uniquely fun and interesting site for teens.

If you find yourselves in the village of Hallsatt in Northern Austria, be sure to take a quick visit to Salzwelten. This ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake connected by railway is an amazing stop along your family trip. Put on your hard hats and explore the mine’s tunnels and walkable attractions by the glow of your flashlight. Step out on the Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform for a birds-eye view of the town. Enjoy the view from above before heading back down below, following trails leading to the Echern Valley glacier garden. Echern Valley’s beautiful glacial potholes and Waldbachstrub Waterfall are not to be missed — not to mention, both are a great walking tour and photo op.

Check out the world’s largest ice cave in Salzburg, April–October. Grab a lantern and walk through the giant ice caves of Eisriesenwelt Werfen just as Anton von Posselt-Czorichthe did upon discovering it in the late 1800s. Take an educational tour with the whole family and be sure to bundle up, as it is even cold in the summer months.
