Cruising

When it comes to cruising, the possibilities are endless.

A short trip to the nearest coast is all you need to be on your way to a luxurious and unique destination. Whether you are heading north to Alaska or south to the Caribbean, there are limitless options when it comes to cruising.

Typically, travelers fly to their nearest port to set sail. Some live near enough where they can drive, but, the fact of the matter is, getting to a cruise terminal is much simpler when that terminal is in your home country. Sailing out of Canada is more limited than sailing out of the United States, but there are a number of ways to make a memorable trip out of a Canadian departure.

If you plan to cruise out of Canada, start planning for flights to either Vancouver, British Columbia, or Sydney, Nova Scotia. These are two of the cities with access to the most cruise operations, with Vancouver the denser of the options.

If you are planning to cruise out of Vancouver, you will leave through Canada Place at the Port of Vancouver. The terminal services 15 cruise lines, but service is extremely limited in the winter. When you begin planning your trip, make sure you are preparing for a summer departure. Cruises begin in earnest in April and begin wrapping up by the beginning of October.

One of the most popular itineraries for people sailing from Vancouver is Alaska, but there are plenty of destinations available for cruisers. Cruise lines also serve Japan and Hawai’i.

Once your itinerary is planned, begin considering when you will arrive in Vancouver. The cruise is likely the vacation’s main course, but there are plenty of things to see and do in Vancouver before and after your departure on the cruise. Vancouver’s official tourism website has a number of suggestions for ways for families to spend time before their cruise and after returning to port.

If you are on the eastern side of Canada, plan your trip to depart from the Port of Sydney in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Popular cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line sail to other destinations in Canada and New England.

Canada is probably not the first destination to come to mind when you think about cruising, but there are plenty of options for cruising out of the country.

3 New England Towns to Visit Before Christmas

Towns across New England look like scenes from Christmas cards, especially as they’re covered in this year’s early snows. Steets and shops glow with lights, and special holiday events range from Santa visits and parades to skating parties and sleigh rides. It’s also a good time to visit historic homes, many decorated in the holiday style of their period.
