Nashville might be known as Music City, but Rhode Island is bringing some of that musical magic home with Nashville North. This venture is designed to connect the vibrant music culture of Nashville with that of Westerly, Rhode Island, a city with a rich musical history of its own and perfect for family travelers.
Downtown Westerly is home to United, a nonprofit cultural complex bringing educational programs, cultural events, films and a variety of live entertainment to this coastal region. The United partnered with Nashville’s iconic Bluebird Café and Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, home to the Taylor Swift Education Center, to bring even more incredible musical programming and songwriting inspiration to Rhode Island.
Through showcasing upcoming talent and fostering the relationship between songwriting and musical artistry, the Bluebird launched the careers of notable names like Taylor Swift, whose father, Scott, was the driving force behind the Nashville North concept. Nashville North will keep the Bluebird tradition alive by featuring the kind of performances the Bluebird is known for — intimate performances that emphasize the talents of songwriters, the processes involved in creating musical art and giving the audience an up-close look at this side of music.
Nashville North is just one of many reasons to visit Westerly, where you can enjoy great food, a relaxing stay and plenty of family fun like tracking down the local Dambo trolls (there are now a total of 5 in Rhode Island!). But while you are there, you’ll want to experience a bit of Nashville for some great music and songwriting inspiration.

Icelandair is well-known for its stopover program, which allows passengers to stay in Iceland for a few days at no extra charge. It’s a great way for families to see a new place and explore a new country on their way to and from Europe. When my family travels, we enjoy spending a couple days exploring Reykjavik and Iceland’s natural beauty as part of our trip. Iceland has become one of my family’s favorite destinations. We always find something new to do, no matter how many times we visit.
