Travel Tips

South Vietnam’s intricate canal system, weaving in and out of lush green forests, lined with beaches and rustic beauty, sets the scene for an unforgettable family vacation. See the diverse landscape with a guided tour on your next trip. Mekong Delta, known for its interwoven water system often called the River of Nine Dragons, may not sound like a cycle-friendly destination, but, in fact, it’s the most popular activity in the area. Explore like a local and hop on a Mekong Rustic tour, including cycling, boating, cooking and more cycling.

Along the three-day tour, active and curious travelers explore Tan Phong Island to learn to garden and tend Bonsai or take some time to go fishing. Explore local culture on Tan Phong Island before visiting the floating Cai Be market, perusing local goods. Skim through the unique ecotourism garden, picking fresh produce and fruits while folk music, or “Don Ca Tai Tu, plays like your own personal soundtrack. Complete your family journey with a 24-mile road ride, approaching Nha Go Thuy Sy in Ben Tren Province.

Before booking a bike tour through the rural terrain of South Vietnam, remember to consult the activity level of your family and fellow travelers. While the tour is easy going, make sure your family is prepared to wake up early, hop on a bike, ride a few miles, hop off for activities, including a row boat on the canal and impromptu fishing for a chance to catch lunch. Expect to be culturally immersed with hands-on family fun and interaction with the locals, visiting workshops, small villages and attractions unique to South Vietnam.

A few tips for the tour: Mind your surroundings and concentrate on your ride while taking in the incredible natural surroundings. While the bikes won’t take your family to high speeds, you may need a rest or two along the way. Keep in mind, the tour is a moderate biking level of about nine–12 miles a day on rural trails.

Be sure to pack sunglasses, sunscreen and other UV protection to keep with you in a pack while you ride. A light backpack, or something similar, will be essential in towing your camera, hat, light layers of clothing (in case of weather changes), and anything you purchase or find along the way. Keep your hands free and eyes ahead on the road and incredible scenery.

Check out the full itinerary here, including hotel pick-ups and drop-offs, a tour guide, accommodations in Mekong Rustic homestays, meals, a cooking class, fishing, boating, bicycling and entrance fees to local attractions. The tour does not include gratuities.
