Instantly recognizable in photos for its towering pair of dormant volcanic plugs — Gros Piton and Petit Piton — the lush island of St. Lucia is an ideal Caribbean family getaway, especially now that temperatures are dipping in so many parts of the United States. At Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, families are invited to warm up beside the sea on a 100-acre property once an 18th-century sugar plantation.
Property pastimes include tennis; beach volleyball; and a wide assortment of water sports such as sailing, kayaking and snorkeling. There’s even the option of a kid-centered fishing charter or boat tour along the island’s coast. Afterwards, share tales over a beachside barbeque or Creole Night-themed dinner.
Adults can find their own ways to pass the time (spa treatments, anyone?) while kids enjoy the V Team Kids Club. From scavenger hunts and beach clean-ups, coral restoration projects to arts and crafts sessions, kids can learn and have fun in the company of their peers.
Clubs are age-focused: The Sugar Club offers a fun selection of supervised activities for kids from 4 to 12 years old; while tweens and teens can take part in the Spice Club Program, with croquet, table tennis and billiard tournaments, along with pinball machines and video games.
