If you want to camp for the 2024 solar eclipse, which takes place on April 8, 2024, you have a few options — but some are better than others.

Firstly, you’ll want to camp in the eclipse’s path of totality, where it’s possible to watch the eclipse completely block out the sun. Luckily, quite a few states sit in the path of totality, and the path of totality is rather wide, so you have lots of options. You can look for campgrounds near large cities in the path of totality, such as Austin, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; or Buffalo, New York, but for fewer crowds, look farther afield, to more rural areas in these states.
