The Freedom Trail
Guides costumed as historical figures lead tours of this famous trail of landmarks in America’s struggle for independence. A tour of the Freedom Trail takes you to museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks and a ship, along with historic markers telling the story of the American Revolution.
Old North Church
Built in 1723 and Boston’s oldest church, Old North Church is where the two lanterns (“One if by land, two if by sea”) were hung to signal Paul Revere before his midnight ride to warn the Minutemen in Lexington and Concord the British troops were coming. You can take a self-guided tour and learn more from an audio guide. Kids will enjoy the scavenger hunt.
Paul Revere House
Tour the home of famous patriot and silversmith Paul Revere and learn about his life and pivotal role in the Revolution. Hear the story of his midnight ride told in his own words and see what home life was like in 18th-century Boston.
USS Constitution
Launched in Boston in 1797, USS Constitution is America’s oldest commissioned warship afloat and was nicknamed “Old Ironsides” in a sea battle during the War of 1812. You can board the ship, where active U.S. Navy personnel describe sailors’ ship life at the time of the Revolution. A museum reveals more about the famous floating landmark.
