The largest city in Saskatchewan may be small by some standards, but it’s big on reasons family travelers will love it.
Kid-Friendly Activities in the Great Outdoors
Canada is ripe with natural beauty, and with summer just around the corner, Mother Nature will be in all her glory, especially in Saskatoon. There are plenty of family-friendly activities here. From parks to outdoor laser tag at Merrill Dunes to amusement parks, there is no shortage of ways to keep the kids entertained while the family enjoys the natural landscape. There is even Children’s Festival, dedicated to making sure the little ones have fun, happening June 4–7 in Kinsmen Park.
It’s Loaded with History and Culture
There is evidence of humans gathering in the area for 6,000 years, meaning there is plenty of history and culture to explore while you’re in Saskatoon. A visit to Wanuskewin, a natural heritage site, will introduce you and the kids to the Metis and Plains First Nation cultures, who made the area their home for centuries. It’s much more than just a cultural heritage center — you can spend the night in a Plains Cree-style tipi at the Tipi Village for a hands-on educational experience for the little ones.
Kid-Friendly Canadian Cuisine
Saskatoon offers plenty of dining options to let kids be as picky as they want to be and still have fun with meals. Head to Fun Factory, where there are plenty of menu options to munch on while the kids (and, yeah, the adults, too!) enjoy arcade games and activities. And if your visit includes that cultural stop at Wanuskewin, you’ll want to save time for a meal at the center’s restaurant, where Indigenous foods and dining customs are blended with modern dining and cooking techniques.
