The Illuminate SF Festival of Light celebrates more than 40 eco-friendly light art installations throughout San Francisco. Located in 17 different neighborhoods, the works are accessible by public transportation and most are free to view. Through Jan. 23, locals and visitors are invited to take in the artwork from artists including Jenny Holtzer, Joseph Kosuth, Leo Villareal, Hank Willis Thomas and more. From the airport to Salesforce Tower, from parking garages to apartments, San Francisco will be illuminated with stunning light installations.
Golden Gate Park is home to several this year, including “Entwined” in Peacock Meadow, and the “Observation Wheel.” The whimsical wonderland of “Entwined” starts Dec. 10 and ends Feb. 29.
“Over the years, ‘Illuminate SF Festival of Light’ has become increasingly popular with visitors and locals alike. This is the perfect activation for San Francisco this season where we can all view these marvels while staying safe, enjoy the new outdoor dining patios along the way and get some much-needed exercise with an evening stroll,” said Brenda Tucker, director of arts marketing, San Francisco Travel Association. Illuminate SF Festival of Light is presented by San Francisco Travel Association in collaboration with local partners.
The new and existing installations are included in the Illuminate SF LightArtTrail, a self-guided itinerary with 11 installations through neighborhoods including Embarcadero, Civic Center and the Castro. D
