The annual, family-friendly event, Christmas at the Caverns, at Texas’ largest cavern system, Natural Bridge Caverns, is now open, bringing the sights and sounds of the holiday season for a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Extensive health and safety protocols are in place this year, as well.

Last year’s popular hayride is now the Trail of Lights, a one-third-mile walk through lighted holiday scenes and characters. Towering Live Oaks are wrapped in tens of thousands of lights, allowing for family meandering while social distancing.

The caverns, 180 feet below the surface, resonate with traditional Christmas carols and favorite holiday tunes. Small, intimate groups of performers replace the larger choirs of the past to create the joyful sounds.

Caroling in the Caverns also has a whole new look. Natural Bridge Caverns unveiled a dynamic, multimillion-dollar, programmable LED lighting enhancement package in the cavern earlier this year. A mere 319 fixtures were replaced by 1,200 strategically placed lights.

Christmas at the Caverns will be held Dec. 12 and 13 and 19–23, starting at 4:30 p.m., with Caroling in the Caverns tours available. Discovery Village invites guests to roast s’mores, drink hot chocolate or visit with Santa “Spelunker” Claus. The AMAZEn’ Reindeer Roundup is an outdoor, 5,000-square-foot maze, and holiday movies will play on the lawn. General admission is $19.99 for adults and $14.99 for children 3–9, including Trail of Lights, AMAZEn’ Reindeer Roundup, Storytime with Spelunker Claus, Discovery Village campfire, yard games, outdoor Christmas movies and live music. Caroling in the Caverns is an additional $12.99.
