Soneva recently debuted Soneva Academy, a series of educational courses for kids aged 12 and older at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in the Maldives. The courses cover a range of topics related to the Maldives. Participants receive a certificate at the completion of each course.

There are five different courses offered at the two properties:

Marine Life of the Maldives (Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani)
Dive underwater for an up-close experience of coral reefs. Young guests will learn about the importance of coral reefs, how they are created and which animals live in them. Take part in a scientific survey of the local reef and analyze the findings.

The Night Sky in the Maldives (Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani)
The resorts’ resident astronomer guides young guests through an observation of the night sky. They will explain the stories behind constellations and other celestial bodies. On the final night, participants will look through telescopes to take what they’ve learned and experience it in practice.

Mosquitoes and Mosquito-Borne Illnesses (Soneva Fushi)
Young guests will watch a screening of the documentary Mosquito, featuring Dr. Bart Knols, managing director of science and conservation, Soneva. The following course will examine how Soneva Fushi has dealt with the local mosquito population and its plan to roll out its sustainable pest management protocols throughout the Maldives.

Zero Waste and Plastic Pollution (Soneva Fushi)
Participants learn all about the various types of plastic and the negative impact, particularly for small islands like the Maldives. They will also learn about best practices for achieving a zero-waste lifestyle, including making their own toothpaste and body scrub.

The Adventure of the Corbin (Soneva Fushi)
The overnight excursion combines nautical history, navigation skills and survival tips. The excursion is inspired by the Corbin, a French cargo vessel that sank in the area in 1602. Young guests will learn about marine and island life in the Maldives at the property before being transferred to the uninhabited island Innafushi. On the island, guests will camp for two nights and snorkel to the wreck site.
