Experience a naturalist-led eco adventure in South Carolina with Barrier Island Eco Tours. Established in 1997, the tour company brings visitors to Capers Island Preserve by boat to learn more about the area.
Perfect for the entire family, there are four public tours available. Guests encounter bottlenose dolphins and loggerhead sea turtles on the Sunset Dolphin Cruise while also learning about the sea creatures on a 2.5-hour tour. Get off the boat and explore the boneyard beach at Capers Island for one hour. The Capers Island Wildlife Exploration tour takes visitors to Capers Island Heritage Preserve to observe the diverse wildlife living in the local ecosystem. Expect to see bottlenose dolphins, bald eagles and a variety of other birds. The year-round tour lasts 3.5 hours. Bring the family for the summer-only Lowcountry Beachside Cookout. The 3.5-hour tour brings guests to Capers Island’s North Beach for a fresh seafood dinner. Spend time exploring the beach while dinner is being prepared. The 3.5-hour Blue Crabbing Excursion gives visitors an up-close experience with local crabs. The naturalist guide pulls crab traps and teaches about blue crabs and stone crabs. The tour culminates in a crab boil on Capers Island.
Guests may bring coolers with beverages on all tours, though trash must not be left on the beaches. Tour availability varies by season. In addition to the scheduled tours, private tours are also available. Private tour offerings include fishing and oyster harvesting. Tours depart from the Isle of Palms Marina in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
