With Labor Day approaching, accessibleGO, the leading accessible travel platform in the United States for people with disabilities to book their travel needs, released its suggestions for some fun, accessible outings for family travelers.

In Sacramento, California, the 32nd annual Chalk It Up! Art and Museum Festival runs Sept. 3– 5. Held at Fremont Park, this festival features live musicians, as well as local craft, maker and food vendors. Visitors can watch local artists turn sidewalks into colorful works of art, and kids of all ages are encouraged to try their own hand at making a sidewalk masterpiece.

St. Louis, Missouri, hosts the Japanese Festival, Sept. 3–5, at Missouri Botanical Gardens. Celebrating the history and culture of Japan, this festival is one of the largest and oldest festivals in the United States. The Missouri Botanical Gardens and Zimmerman Sensory Gardens are also wheelchair-friendly.

Those looking for all-inclusive children’s museums can also turn to accessibleGO’s list of some of the top places to visit for inclusive fun. The Children’s Museum Houston hosts Explore Abilities Day Oct. 17. On this day, the museum will be less crowded, with reduced light and sounds throughout the museum. Additionally, more areas of the museum will be designated as quiet spaces. On Dec. 19, Sensory Friendly Day comes to the Children’s Museum Houston, offering relief from extra stimuli for kids with autism spectrum disorder and their families.

The Minnesota Children’s Museum offers free admission to personal care attendants when accompanying the person they assist. The museum also features two small, quiet break rooms with low levels of visual stimulation. Guests can also check out noise-reducing headphones at the museum.

In Miami, head to Miami Children’s Museum, which offers a variety of accessible services like sighted guide tours, featuring staff trained by Miami Lighthouse for the Blind. Other services include sign language interpretation services and a sound level map to aid visitors with diverse sensory needs.
