There are already plenty of amazing reasons to visit San Diego Zoo, but now there is a new baby Sumatran orangutan to add to the list! This award-winning zoo celebrates the birth of Kaja, who arrived Jan. 4, 2022. He is the third child of long-time zoo resident, 35-year-old Indah.
Kaja is the first orangutan born at the zoo since 2014. The birth of an animal is always a big deal at the zoo, which works to save species around the world through conservation efforts. With fewer than 7,500 Sumatran orangutans left in the world, little Kaja is an important contribution to the zoo.
The San Diego Zoo is an ideal excursion for families visiting this beautiful Southern California destination. In addition to baby Kaja, the zoo is home to more than 12,000 animals and more than 3,100 species of plants from around the world. While there, you can enjoy a 4-D movie experience, attend a wildlife presentation and book a special experience for an up-close look at the animals and inner workings of the zoo.
Visitors can enjoy the zoo daily, even on holidays. Single-day passes run $62 for adults and $52 for children 3–11 (children under 3 are free). Active-duty military receive complimentary admission and seniors aged 65 and older receive a discount. Parking is free.
