Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is known for its year-round mermaid experiences; however, this year, the hotel plans to celebrate National Mermaid Day on Saturday, March 29, with a magical undersea adventure. If your little ones love mermaids, plan your family travel around the day for fin-tastic fun!
The events start at 12:30 p.m. with a Mermaid Meet & Greet, allowing kids to meet the hotel’s three enchanting mermaids in person and take photos. Immediately following at 1 p.m., those 5 years old and younger can head to the Mini Mermaid Parent & Me class to pick out their own tail from the Treasure Chest and learn about water from Hyatt’s ProFishional Mermaid Red Cross Swim-Fin Instructor. While the mini class is held, those over the age of 5 can participate in Mermaid Magic, a class teaching them to swim safely in a mermaid tail, do underwater tricks and dive for treasure.

A Fin Fitness class begins at 2 p.m., offered to those 16 years of age and older. While leading the water exercise class, the mermaid also offers insight into the ocean and the life it supports.
All throughout the day, activities like themed crafts and menus will be on offer. Parents will enjoy Mermaid Happy Hour at Shor, the property’s new beachfront venue.

Apr 17, 2025Experience the Night Sky Like Never Before in Oregon’s Outback
I’ve looked up at the night sky almost every night of my life and have always been fascinated by the way the experience changes from day to day and place to place. But on recent family travel to Oregon, I got to experience it like never before in the Oregon Outback. I was staying at the lovely Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte (not far from Bend) and, as the day came to a close, my group boarded a van with Wanderlust Tours and began the journey into a region of the Oregon desert known as the Oregon Outback.
