The FXExpress Publications, Inc. team sends its thoughts and support to the victims of the earthquake in Mexico.

Updates

On Tuesday, a devastating earthquake hit the central Mexico state of Pueblo, causing 217 reported deaths and significant building and infrastructure damage, including schools and hospitals.

The 7.1-magnitude quake was Mexico’s most destructive since 1985 and occurred less than two weeks after an 8.1-magnitude quake hit off the country’s southern coast, killing at lease 90 people.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, including 3,400 soldiers, according to Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defense. Millions are left without power, and there is a big need for clothes, water and food.

There are several ways you can help.

Organizations like UNICEF Mexico are collecting monetary donations, the most effective at this time, and several other international and local organizations are collecting physical items.

You can donate through Red Cross MexicoOxfam MexicoSave the Children Mexico or smaller nonprofits like Project Paz.

A rescue brigade, Topos Mexico, is currently on the ground and is taking monetary donations. The brigade was a huge part of rescue efforts in the 1985 earthquake that killed more than 10,000 people.

There is also a verified donation portal collecting funds to assist the victims. The PayPal donation site goes to the Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca, Mexico, organized by Denise Lechner Edelkind, a National Geographic photographer and anthropologist in the field in the affected area.
