Having pets join in on family travels adds to the fun and memorable experiences. According to American Pet Products Association, more than 70 percent of U.S. households own a pet in 2022 and one in two pet owners only opt to stay at accommodations allowing pets.

Each month in the U.S., there are nearly 4,800 Google searches for “pet-friendly vacation.” To make finding a pet-friendly destination easier, vacation experts at Family Destinations Guide searched for U.S. cities with the most listings for pet-friendly accommodations. Taking the 50 most-populated cities in the country, the team used data from rental site Vrbo to discover the top 20 pet-friendly cities.

The top 20 pet-friendly cities for travel, alongside the number of pet-friendly accommodation listings, are:

  1. Houston, Texas – 478
  2. Dallas, Texas – 470
  3. San Diego, California – 467
  4. Jacksonville, Florida – 466
  5. Orlando, Florida – 464
  6. San Antonio, Texas – 463
  7. Phoenix, Arizona – 458
  8. Los Angeles, California – 440
  9. Chicago, Illinois – 440
  10. New York City, New York – 439
  11. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 428
  12. Las Vegas, Nevada – 424
  13. Denver, Colorado – 419
  14. Austin, Texas – 416
  15. Seattle, Washington – 390
  16. Atlanta, Georgia – 340
  17. San Francisco, California – 336
  18. Washington, D.C. – 298
  19. San Jose, California – 250
  20. Boston, Massachusetts – 143

Texas sees four cities in the top 20, and with more than 89 state parks, travelers can enjoy the great outdoors with pets. Two cities in Florida rank in the top five, with Florida featuring some of the country’s best canine parks, including Lake Winter Park in downtown Orlando and Dog Wood Park in Jacksonville.

Rome Welcomes Families to Enjoy its Jubilee Year

This year is a special year for Rome. Every 25 years, the city celebrates a Jubilee Year, a Holy Year that focuses on renewal and reconciliation, and, as this year’s celebrations get underway, the city prepares to welcome 30 million visitors to take part in the festivities and take advantage of the opportunity to explore the Eternal City. The Jubilee Year officially kicked off Christmas Eve in 2024 and will end this December, and this year’s Jubilee theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Although the celebration is a Catholic tradition, marking the Jubilee Year a Holy Year, the tradition has its roots in Judaism and focuses on reconciliation and restoring relationships with God.
