Having pets join in on family travels adds to the fun and memorable experiences. According to American Pet Products Association, more than 70 percent of U.S. households own a pet in 2022 and one in two pet owners only opt to stay at accommodations allowing pets.
Each month in the U.S., there are nearly 4,800 Google searches for “pet-friendly vacation.” To make finding a pet-friendly destination easier, vacation experts at Family Destinations Guide searched for U.S. cities with the most listings for pet-friendly accommodations. Taking the 50 most-populated cities in the country, the team used data from rental site Vrbo to discover the top 20 pet-friendly cities.
The top 20 pet-friendly cities for travel, alongside the number of pet-friendly accommodation listings, are:
- Houston, Texas – 478
- Dallas, Texas – 470
- San Diego, California – 467
- Jacksonville, Florida – 466
- Orlando, Florida – 464
- San Antonio, Texas – 463
- Phoenix, Arizona – 458
- Los Angeles, California – 440
- Chicago, Illinois – 440
- New York City, New York – 439
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 428
- Las Vegas, Nevada – 424
- Denver, Colorado – 419
- Austin, Texas – 416
- Seattle, Washington – 390
- Atlanta, Georgia – 340
- San Francisco, California – 336
- Washington, D.C. – 298
- San Jose, California – 250
- Boston, Massachusetts – 143
Texas sees four cities in the top 20, and with more than 89 state parks, travelers can enjoy the great outdoors with pets. Two cities in Florida rank in the top five, with Florida featuring some of the country’s best canine parks, including Lake Winter Park in downtown Orlando and Dog Wood Park in Jacksonville.
