Family travelers planning a trip to New York City will want to consider The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel New York, which recently unveiled the first phase of its transformation, designed by DLR Group. This phase included the lobby and the 209 residential guestrooms, even debuting the new Beverly Suite.
“Throughout this past year, we have delighted in shaping the next chapter of the iconic hotel, all while preserving its timeless pied-à-terre allure that has captivated guests for decades,” said Simon Chapman, general manager, The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel New York. “The transformation of the hotel underscores our commitment to elevating the standard of luxury for discerning travelers seeking the finest experiences in New York City.”

The new lobby’s front desk was inspired by a handcrafted cigar box with rich ebony wood, warm leather and gold detailing with an amber-veined onyx backdrop. Guests also enjoy new furnishings, bespoke art and local touches in the lobby space. In refinished guestrooms, design elements include warm walnut tones, herringbone floors and light-colored wall coverings. The Benjamin Suite was also redesigned.
In the new Beverly Suite, guests find delicate finishes, soft curves and decorative lighting. A library wall in the living room area is a highlight, while the suite also includes a dining room, kitchen and bedroom.
Parents will want to learn more about the addition of the new Kids Sleep Program.

Jan 8, 2026What is a Salvaged Stay and How to Plan One
Salvaged stays are an emerging trend in travel that let family travelers enjoy a unique way to experience a destination. Rather than staying in a destination’s big-ticket resort hotel or a cookie-cutter vacation rental, travelers look to the world’s repurposed properties, like abandoned mills and defunct train stations-turned-hotels that have found new life. These renovated properties are a lesson in sustainability and give families a chance to discover a unique view of the history of a destination.
