Allianz Partners USA recently revealed its Top 10 Thanksgiving Destination Index, serving as a great source of inspiration for family travelers looking for travel ideas this Thanksgiving. As expected, major U.S. cities and warm-weather international destinations will draw the highest number of American travelers this Thanksgiving.
In fact, Allianz analyzed more than 2 million travel itineraries to discover the most popular domestic and international destinations this year. The company considered roundtrip flights departing from U.S. airports Nov. 19–24 and returning Nov. 25–29.
Allianz found the top domestic destinations for Thanksgiving this year are:
- New York, New York
- Seattle, Washington
- Orlando, Florida
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Los Angeles, California
- Dallas, Texas
- Washington, D.C.
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida
For international destinations, the top places Americans travel to this Thanksgiving are:
- Cancún, Mexico
- San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico
- Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
- London, United Kingdom
- Montego Bay, Jamaica
- Nassau, Bahamas
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- Oranjestad, Aruba
- Paris, France
The study found Mexico dominates many American travelers’ plans, with three cities ranking above any European city. For domestic travel, Allianz noted Seattle’s growing popularity, as well as Phoenix rising on the list.
