Visit Museum of the American Revolution on family travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during Labor Day weekend for a full lineup of family-friendly activities and educational programs. The museum in Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood hosts special programming Aug. 31–Sept. 2.
On Saturday at 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., watch a 30-minute Meet Elizabeth Freeman performance, detailing the life of the Massachusetts woman who sued for her right to freedom from enslavement and won. On Monday at 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., catch the Meet Joseph Plumb performance, highlighting the experiences of the teenaged solider in George Washington’s army.
Children are invited to take part in hands-on activities. Learn to make your own Rhode Island Regiment cap, like those worn by troops of the Rhode Island Regiment as they marched through Philadelphia. Check out the discovery cart and learn more about the artisans and makers who created supplies for the Continental Army. Daily at 2:30 p.m., head to the museum’s replica sloop to learn about what life was like at sea during the Revolutionary War.
The museum’s special exhibit, “Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent,” is also open to visitors during the holiday weekend.
All Labor Day weekend activities are included with admission. Children 12 years old and younger receive free admission along with an adult ticket purchased at the front desk during the holiday weekend. All tickets are valid for two consecutive days.
