Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, has become a rising star of the tourism industry, and for good reason. The city offers a glimpse into an old-world culture juxtaposed with flashy cars roaming the streets and over-the-top luxury around every corner. There is no place in the world quite like Dubai and we compiled just a few of the many reasons why this desert haven should be on every family traveler’s bucket list.
World-Class Shopping
In a country where you can buy gold from a vending machine, the shopping experience in Dubai is second to none. Whether you want to hit up the gold souk (market) where you can visit stall after stall selling all things gold or shopping malls featuring the world’s most sought-after and popular brands (The Dubai Shopping Mall is billed as the world’s largest), Dubai offers a shopping experience you won’t soon forget.
Year-Round Skiing
Sure, there are destinations around the world renowned for great skiing, but where else can you do it in the middle of the desert? You can ski, snowboard and even meet penguins at this indoor ski resort known as Ski Dubai. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or want to take lessons, there is skiing and snowboarding for all levels, with equipment rentals available on site.
Dubai boasts what is currently the tallest building in the world — the Burj Khalifa. Like the hundreds of skyscrapers that dot the city’s skyline, this building is the product of some of the world’s most innovative architecture. Home to a hotel, corporate offices, residences and the incredible observation lounge at the top where you can get breathtaking views of the city and the desert that surrounds it, Burj Khalifa is a must-see stop in Dubai.
Incredible Theme Parks and Attractions
Dubai has a reputation as a playground for the rich and famous, with an emphasis on playground. There are so many fun places to visit you’ll likely have to plan a second trip to see all the sites. Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis Dubai is not only the world’s largest waterpark, but also one of the most fun water parks, with more than 105 adrenaline-pumping waterslides to experience.
