Travel Tips

With the approaching New Year, it’s the perfect time to start considering resolutions for 2020. Young children even get in on the fun of planning for the New Year. There are plenty of ways to incorporate travel in annual resolutions.

It can be tough for kids to pick resolutions beyond promising to be nice to siblings or share their toys.

In the days leading up to New Year celebrations, take a few minutes to sit down with your kids and see if they like the idea of making resolutions. If they are already interested in travel, share ideas on how the family may travel in the next year. Will there be plans for international trips or business travel with the family in tow?

If you foresee a lot of leisure travel coming up in the next year, your older kids’ resolutions can be to help plan more trips. This will get the children involved and learning about the world at large. They don’t need to be involved in the nitty-gritty planning, but offering insights on fun museums and types of activities can validate and help grow a child’s self esteem.

A resolution tangentially related to travel is a promise to expand horizons and eat different types of food. As anyone who has spent any amount of time with small children can testify, kids can be picky. Encouraging kids to spread their wings and eat new foods from different destinations can help them get more out of the entire experience.

For younger children and kids uninterested in new cuisine, consider having the kids promise to try new experiences. Many cities have something unique and fun, including Ferris wheels and observation towers, while others have nearby local wildlife.

Travel is all about expanding horizons and kids can never be too young to try new things, help plan trips or explore new foods. The New Year is the perfect time to encourage these habits and instill them for a curious, open-minded life.
