Ski bunnies, powder lovers and their families have new in-state transportation options this year to get to some of Colorado’s most-loved winter destinations. Non-stop flights from a variety of airlines depart Denver International Airport (DEN) to Aspen Pitkin County Airport (ASE), Durango La Plata County Airport (DRO), Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT), Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), Steamboat/Hayden Regional Airport (HDN) and Telluride Regional Airport (TEX).
This winter, the new Snowstang bus departing from both Denver’s Union Station and the RTD Federal Station in Lakewood provides service to resorts, including Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Steamboat Resort. The route will be active through April 19, including President’s Day on Feb. 17.
Expanded service from The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Bustang Bus Service will offer a route to Salida, plus daily service to Monarch Ski Area until April 5. Other resort areas and mountain towns accessible by Bustang include Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Copper Mountain, Echo Mountain, Monarch Mountain, Purgatory Resort, Sunlight Mountain Resort and Telluride Ski Resort.
Rail-riders can enjoy mountain views while relaxing onboard the Amtrak Winter Park Express, departing from Denver’s Union Station to Winter Park Resort, with new service Friday through Sunday each weekend, Jan. 10–March 29. The Amtrak California Zephyr offers daily service to Colorado stops, including Glenwood Springs, Granby and Fraser. Passengers arriving in Glenwood Springs will be transported via shuttle to Sunlight Mountain, while those arriving at Fraser will be close to Winter Park Resort.

For a great family-friendly bonus this year, there are more than a dozen new ski- and ride-free initiatives for kids. Among them are the 5th and 6th Grade Passport Program, good at 22 participating Colorado Ski Country USA member resorts. Fifth graders who never skied or snowboarded enjoy a free full-day beginner lesson and equipment rental at the participating resort of their choice, plus three days of complimentary skiing or boarding; sixth graders have up to four days of skiing for a discounted ticket price.
At Cooper and Granby Ranch, kids age 5 and under ski free every day; at Aspen Snowmass, kids 6 and younger always enjoy free skiing; and at Hesperus Ski Area, children aged 10 and under get a free season pass at both Hesperus and Purgatory Resort.
