With fall quickly approaching, the timing is perfect to head to one of America’s most beloved national parks for an outdoor adventure without the crowds or summer heat. Fall is a magical time for Yosemite National Park for family travelers, offering pleasant temperatures, foliage sporting beautiful fall colors and plenty of ways to experience nature.
At Curry Village, one of many lodgings available in the park, enjoy a comfortable jumping-off point to explore the park’s many sites. Designed to pay homage to the original roots of Yosemite, Curry Village offers a range of rustic accommodations, like the canvas tent cabins letting you experience the park the way it was intended — camping-style.
The tents let you rough it without having to pitch your own or sleep on the ground, and, in the winter months, heated tents are available for year-round comfort. While they may be bare bones with no plumbing or electrical outlets, they do have comfortable beds, lighting and are ADA compliant.
For more luxurious accommodations, your family can enjoy one of the wood cabins or a standard hotel room. The grounds include an on-site restaurant and gift shop, which come in handy for those staying in the tents where food or other scented items are not allowed in order to keep guests safe from local wildlife.
From your vantage point at Curry Village, Yosemite and its many attractions are at your disposal. During the fall, some of the best hikes to take are Lower Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Valley Loop, Mirror Lake Trail, Yosemite Falls to Columbia Rock Trail and the Yosemite Falls Trail. The trails lead you to some of the most spectacular sites the park has to offer, like North America’s tallest waterfall, along with stunning views of Half Dome and Sentinel Rock.
Whether you plan to enjoy outdoor fall and winter sports, hike the park’s extensive network of trails or simply relax in the solitude of the majestic sequoias of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, Curry Village gives your family the comfort and convenience to make your trip a success.

The next time you’re on a family travel road trip — even a short one — try giving your kids an old-fashioned paper road map. If you don’t have one, your nearest visitor center will likely have highway maps for your state. Show them where you are and where you are going, and suggest they follow along on the map as you travel.
