Spend a weekend in San Diego to experience some of the city’s newest additions. From exciting attractions and events to arts and culture, San Diego has something for the whole family this year.
Slated to open in March 2022, Sesame Place San Diego will incorporate the beloved kids show into a fun theme park complete with seven Sesame Street-themed rides, an interactive musical play area and 11 water attractions. The park will also feature one of the largest wave pools in Southern California.
With the iconic 123 Stoop, live character shows, daily parades, Muppet character appearances and photo opportunities, Sesame Place will be the ultimate adventure day for all children.
Located in San Diego Zoo is the 3.2-acre Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, an exploratory and immersive experience set to open February 2022. The basecamp will allow visitors to explore a number of species like leafcutter ants, prairie dogs and sloths.
Feb. 1–28, San Diego Museum Month returns to offer visitors the chance to explore more than 45 local museums and cultural attractions in the city for half-off admission. The pass is available for free at all Macy’s store locations in San Diego County and visitors can use the pass all month for up to four half-priced admissions at any of the participating museums.
Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
Expanding its La Jolla campus, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will reopen in April 2022. The larger La Jolla campus will allow for the display of a permanent collection as well as a larger entry sequence to the building. The museum will also see the addition of a large multipurpose gallery on the lower level to create a space for public programs, performance art, artist talks and other immersive educational activities for kids.
The San Diego Trolley recently opened its expanded UC San Diego Line for visitors to have even more access to sites across the city. This lengthened line runs from the U.S.-Mexico border to UC San Diego in La Jolla to the UTC Transit Center, adding nine new trolley stations.
