Travel Tips

While many of us have long since packed up our warm weather dreams and are getting ready for winter, Virginia Beach is prepping Oyster Month celebrations — yes, it’s November and no, that’s not an issue for the fresh seafood scene of Virginia Beach.

Bring the kids and feast on Lynnhaven oysters, fried fish and fresh East Coast seafood like a local at these dock-and-dine eateries:

Chick’s Oyster Bar
Sitting on Lynnhaven Inlet’s dock for more than 20 years, this casual stop’s menu is filled with fresh seafood sourced directly from the water surrounding it.

Rockafeller’s on Rudee Inlet

One of the most homegrown experiences in a multistory, cottage-style eatery, Rockafeller’s is beloved for its local charm, service and locally sourced ingredients. Dine on fresh seafood and oysters at this Virginia Beach mainstay.

Rudee’s

Perfectly situated on the dock with a view, Rudee’s has been slinging fresh seafood and nautical vibes for 40 years.

Big Sam’s Inlet Café & Raw Bar

Enjoy any meal of the day at Big Sam’s with coastal tiki vibes, thanks to the founder’s previous life as a surfer.

Surf Rider
Speaking of surfers, Surf Rider’s seasonal fare, open-air ambiance and comfortable vibe will be closing up shop for winter, so now is the perfect time to try fried seafood and oysters.

The Porch On Long Creek
With views for days and the soothingly calm waters of Long Creek offering a lulling soundtrack you didn’t know you needed for dinner, this new kid on the Virginia Beach block offers classic coastal American fare and innovative cocktails.

Bubba’s Crabhouse and Seafood Restaurant
Once a bait and tackle shop some 30 years ago, Bubba’s Crab House and Seafood Restaurant is beloved for its she-crab soup. Warm up with a sea-to-table serving and enjoy the surrounding Lynnhaven River views.

Steinhilber’s
Established in 1939, this local favorite (also known as Stein’s) is one of the oldest continually operated restaurants in the state. Dine like a local and try the famous fried shrimp.
