Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas, welcomes children and families of all accessibility levels. Inspired by his own daughter’s experiences with fellow swimmers in a hotel pool, Gordon and Maggie Hartman created the world’s first amusement park specifically designed for children with special needs.
Hartman’s goal was to create an oasis for kids and families to come together in a fun, accepting environment. Morgan’s Wonderland is a unique park where groups with and without disabilities come together with the possibility of gaining a better understanding of one another.
Admission is free for anyone with a special need and the entire park is completely wheelchair-accessible. The park features more than 25 rides, playgrounds and family-friendly attractions. Tickets range from $11–17 per person and include free parking and full access to Morgan’s Wonderland with optional GPS adventure band. There is also a Group ID code-embedded band allowing groups and families to keep track of each other through the park.
Upgrade to the dual admission packages for $21–27 and enjoy both parks: Morgan’s Wonderland theme park and Morgan’s Inspiration Island water park. Splash through Rainbow Reef, Hang Ten Harbor, Harvey’s Hideaway Bay or hop on the River Boat Adventure ride. Waterproof wheelchairs are available on loan for free without a time limit.
Plan a birthday party, special event or school trip to Morgan’s Wonderland or just spend the day with the family. With educational events, shows and activities, there will be plenty to do on breaks or for family members less interested in rides.
There are also plenty of events specifically geared toward specific family members, such as the Mom’s Coffee and Conversation. For $17, on the first and third Friday of every month moms get together at the park for coffee, concession samples and great conversations.
Another amazing organization, South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports, work with athletes from youth and adults, veterans and special needs in the Morgan’s Wonderland Gym.
Check out the website for up-to-date information on seasonal events, shows and special calendar activities popping up through the year. Bring the kids and enjoy an inclusive adventure with ample opportunities to relax, make new friends and have fun. With all levels of accessibility in mind, Morgan’s Wonderland was built for everyone’s enjoyment.
