Travel Tips

Choosing where to stay during a visit to Portugal can be as difficult to decide as which beaches to have fun in the sun. Here, we take a look at a handful of family hotels in Portugal and its varying regions.

Hotel Concha

If you and your family are looking for a beach break, consider making reservations at Hotel Concha in São Martinho do Porto, “a natural shell-shaped bay.” In addition to 26 guestrooms, which range from double to junior suites, the hotel features four family apartments to make the most of your stay. One double bed is found in the family apartments, but an additional bed or cot can be added to accommodate up to five people. A kitchenette means you can easily whip up a bite to eat, and free WiFi will keep you connected.

Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Family Suites

In the heart of Lisbon, Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Family Suites can easily be your family’s home away from home when visiting Portugal’s capital city. Rather than traditional hotel rooms, Martinhal Lisbon Chiado features 37 beautifully designed and appointment apartments so there is plenty of space for your family to spread out and have their own room to move. In addition, each apartment has a kitchen, complete with refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, pots and pans, cutlery, and even a washer and dryer. The property features Raposinhos Kids Club and babysitting, as well as the use of gear for the littlest guests, from baby cots, baby baths and safety gates to bottle sterilizers and warmers and even potties for those training.

Pestana Vila Sol

A game room with pinball and ping-pong, Kids Club and a playground are just some of the amenities families enjoy when they stay at the 5-star Pestana Vila Sol in Vilamoura, in the Algarve. Take a dip in the hotel’s pools, or take a seven-minute drive to Vilamoura Beach. If your family likes to tee off, the hotel’s golf course is one of the most internationally recognized in the Algarve, or you can take a few shots from the driving range. When it comes time to eat, there is a restaurant on property, as well as two bars for a nightcap.

Pousada do Castelo de Óbidos

Your family will feel like royalty when they stay in Pousada do Castelo de Óbidos in Vila de Óbidos. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal, the Pousada is considered of enormous historical importance and has medieval features dating from the ninth century. After exploring the castle, check with the hotel reception for activities you can enjoy in the area, from water sports such as surfing, stand up paddling and fishing, to horseback riding, golf, guided tours and more.
